connecting to character

What i read was that David swallowed ammonia and he couldn't breath. He opened his mouth and thought that nothing would happen to him and when he swallowed it he couldn't breath.

The characters motivation in the book I read to day was that David is trying to find food and he is getting abuse by his mother and his father is just staring at him while she does that to him. He wants to get free from his mother.

Naruto

I read about these ninjas were training to become stronger. They are training so they could defeat one of there enemy's, and protect the bridge builder and his crew. They spend hours climbing trees with out there hand only using there feet. They are being trained to become better ninjas. The hardest goal they have to do is becoming the best ninjas with out getting killed.

One of the words i found was melodrama and that is the only word that i found in this book that i didnt understand and there might be more words in the book that i haven't found yet. There are words that I know and they are not that hard for me.
